Horizon
The red areas on the map show the existing horizon files. When clicking on a red area information and a download link appears. One file has a size of approx. 10-26 MB (depending on the latitude).
Save the file in the subdirectory 'data' of the local METEONORM program directory.
METEONORM calculates the horizon line with help of a digital terrain model (dtm).
The data is stored in tiles with a size of 3x3°. The tiles overlap each other by 1°. This allows defining the horizon with one single tile. The tiles are based on 90x90 m resolution digital terrain data of NASA’s Space Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM).
The tiles of the alpine arc are included in the CD-ROM. In the download version no tiles are delivered to keep the size small.
If there are no files in the local directory (subdirectory 'data' of the METEONORM program directory), the software tries to access the horizon line via internet (from a server of METEOTEST). If the file cannot be found there, a message will appear.
Missing horizon tiles
Tiles are still being added for download. If you need a certain tile, please send us an e-mail and we will make it available.
